New exhibition – The dream about Skagen
Tourism in Skagen started with a dream – about Skagen’s untamed nature, roaring oceans, far-reaching horizons, romantic sunsets and the two oceans meeting at Grenen, the tip of Denmark. What originally was a small and humble fishing village with yellow washed houses has since the start of the 20th century developed into a vibrant fishing port with a tourism sector that is active all year round – especially in the month of July where the number of tourists is peaking in the high season.
The dream about Skagen is alive and well, and since the first tourists left their footprints in Skagen, tourism has continued to evolve with new guest segments from around the world. The rapid development and growth generated by tourism in Skagen from the 19th century until today are showcased in a new permanent exhibition at Kystmuseet Skagen, which opened in 2024. We look forward to taking you on this journey – welcome!
