Welcome to BANGSBO FORT 4045
The wildest re-enactment event in Denmark!
On June 21st and June 22nd you will be able to witness a unique historical re-enactment of the occupation of Denmark with extras dressed in original uniforms, army vehicles from WW2, military camps, live events, Danish and foreign re-enactment groups and much more.
In other words there will be lots of action going on for both children and adults – so don’t miss this event.
This year’s special event
Sabotaging the Frederikshavn-Sæby Railway
The year is 1945 and the German occupation power has big problems transporting troops from Norway, landing them in Frederikshavn and sending them along the Jutland main railway to Germany.
The resistance movement sabotage this route almost on a daily basis. The Germans therefore started using the small private railway between Frederikshavn and Sæby as it is connected to Nørresundby. The resistance movement has been told to sabotage this railway near Understed Station
Sabotaging railways primarily took place in the last years of the war, in 1944 and especially 1945. The aim was to stop German troop transports from Norway and Denmark to the fronts in the southern part of the continent. Most of the sabotages were performed in co-operation with the Western Allies who not only supplied the explosives but also from London sent information about the movements of the German troops.
Operation Freya
A group of allied soldiers has been landed on a beach south of Frederikshavn. The job is to blow up a German radio mast which sends important signals to the German submarines sailing through Kattegat. The radio mast is under constant surveillance by a group of German soldiers. The job has been given the code name Operation Freya
