Entitled “Under fremmed muld” (In a foreign country) it tells about a so far rather unnoticed chapter in WW2 where two Danes more or less by accident became involved in bloody fights. The two Danes – John Andreasen and Niels Wiesneck – both ended in the Canadian army and without knowing about the other they both fought in the offensive against Hitler’s forces – all the way from Normandy to Germany.

Anders Tøttrup Nielsen (Lecture)
Anders Tøttrup Nielsen is a historian specializing in the presentation of cultural heritage and since 2022 he has been a curator at The Coastal Museum of Northern Jutland. He has done research into “The Victims of Nazism” the last couple of years, resulting in laying out so-called Stolpersteine (stumbling blocks) in six different towns within the municipality of Frederikshavn. Stumbling blocks are small memorial stones the size of a cobble. They are placed in the pavement where a victim of Nazism last stayed – typically the victim’s home or workplace. They are the world’s biggest decentralized memorials with more than 90,000 stumbling blocks spread all over most of Europe.
The work with the victims of Nazism has turned into the exhibition “Victims of Nazism – the fates of 39 persons” at Bangsbo Fort. Here you will learn about the individual fates of different people. Men active in the resistance movement who died in concentration camps, fishermen and sailors whose ships hit mines or were torpedoed and many more who became victims of Nazism during the German occupation of Denmark
